Senior Capstones: Research Help

We encourage seniors to connect with a reference librarian throughout your project, especially early on in your research process. We can help you get started on your research, refine your research questions and search terms, and help you find the best resources for your topic. You can contact us: 

• By online chat: you can talk to us by using the chat box on this page (that says "Chat with a Cazenovia College Librarian!"). Fill out the three blank fields and click the "Start Chat" button.
• By email: if chat is not available, you can email asklib@cazenovia.libanswers.com to ask a simple question or to schedule an appointment to meet with a librarian one-on-one (in person or over Teams).
• By phone: you can call the circulation desk at 315-655-7240 during our hours of operation to ask a question.
• In person: you can come to the library and ask at the circulation desk to speak with a librarian. Librarians are typically available in person Monday - Thursday at 7:45am - 8pm, Friday at 7:45am - 5pm, and Sunday at 4pm-8pm.

You can also browse our subject research guides to access a variety of resources you can use for your capstone research, including subject-specific books and journals (print and electronic), databases, and websites.

Seniors may check out 20 items (books and DVDs) at a time from the library. You may renew items every six weeks until the end of the term, unless someone else places a hold on the item. Items are not automatically renewed. You may renew materials with either your ID, or by bringing the books with you to the library.

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a way for the library to help you get materials from other libraries when we don't have what we need here at the College. The library uses a system known as ILLiad. To use this system, you have to create a new ILLiad account or log in to an existing account. For more information about ILL, go to the library's webpage on interlibrary loan.

Did you know that the Center for Teaching and Learning offers writing help to students?  You can sign up for an appointment with a professional writing tutor in Watts Hall. 

Writing tutors are available Monday-Friday.  For exact hours and to choose a tutor, consult their schedule.

Due to high demand, the professional writing tutors typically require appointments.

Contact your faculty advisor to determine which citation style is required for your senior capstone.

Most databases will cite a source for you! Below is an example of the "Cite" option that shows up once you choose an article, book, or other source from one of our databases.

While citation generators are helpful, remember that they are still imperfect! Therefore, you must still proofread and correct any mistakes before adding a citation to your project.
